About Marissa

I'm a digital content veteran with 17 years of experience. After receiving my Bachelor's degree in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College in 2005, I began my career as a print magazine editor covering beauty, fitness, and fashion. From there, I honed my skills in web, mobile, social, and SEO content as an online editor for top national magazines and digital-native sites. I spent the bulk of my career covering Fashion Week and major events, writing and assigning a slew of newsy blog posts, creating feature articles (beauty product slideshows, relationship advice, celebrity workout photoshoots...), and interviewing celebrities and experts ranging from the Kardashians and the Jessicas (Yep, that one! And that one, too!) to Dr. Helen Fisher and the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. I learned firsthand over 16 years what content resonates with millennial and Gen Z readers/consumers, including what subject lines get them to open an email, what product descriptions build confidence in a brand, and what calls to action result in a click through. My style of writing maintains a reader's engagement to the very end of the article or content funnel.

WRITING: I've written about beauty, fitness, wellness, style, relationships, and more as a writer/editor for Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, Allure, SELF, Shape, Ladies' Home Journal, The Zoe Report, Well + Good, Woman's Day, Woman's World, Women's Health, AskMen, Giddy, INSIDER, Spotlyte, Men's Journal, and more.

EDITING: I've held numerous senior staff roles at top women's websites (Senior Editor, Editorial Director, and Beauty Editor) and led award-winning editorial teams.

ON-CAMERA: I received media training from NBC Universal and Conde Nast and have represented brands in on-camera interviews. I served as the host of several episodes of Bank of America-sponsored The Savings Experiment on AOL/Huffington Post.

COPY + GHOSTWRITING: I currently work full-time on copywriting projects (articles and blog posts, email newsletters, marketing campaigns, website copy, product descriptions, search-optimized landing pages, and more) for brands in the beauty, wellness, and lifestyle space (SKYY Vodka, Ryan Serhant, Patti Stanger, Food + Mood NYC, Omura, Baker's, Alberta Premium, Big Money Energy, Justice Joints, Canndescent, Sell It Like Serhant, and more). I also consult on editorial strategy and content planning for corporate clients, and serve as a ghostwriter for celebrity clients and CEOs. You can view my full background here. My topic areas of expertise: beauty + style, fitness + wellness, and relationships + lifestyle. My background bridges the gap between the journalistic integrity of an old school print editor (I've worked for three of the original "seven sisters" women's magazines) and the nimble, mobile- and e-commerce-focused mindset of a millennial blogger.

I'm a New York City native who is passionate about self-care. And yes, I define eating dessert for breakfast as, "self-care."
